hipages is worth it for a roofer when the jobs you win from it cover the subscription and leave a healthy margin, and that mostly comes down to two things: how fast you respond and how well you follow up. Leads can be claimed by up to three businesses, so slow replies waste credits. Work out your cost per job won before you decide.

How do I work out if hipages pays for itself?
Forget cost per lead for a moment. The only number that matters is what each won job cost you, compared with the profit on that job.
Step 1: your yearly spend
Add up 12 months of plan fees plus any extra credits. On the Advanced plan at $249 a month plus GST, that is $2,988 plus GST before top-ups.
Step 2: your jobs won
Count the jobs you actually won and completed from hipages leads in the same 12 months. Not leads, not quotes: jobs.
Step 3: divide
Cost per job won = yearly spend ÷ jobs won
Step 4: compare with your margin
Example (not real data, use your own numbers):
| Example roofer | |
|---|---|
| Yearly hipages spend | $2,988 |
| Jobs won from hipages | 8 |
| Cost per job won | $374 |
| Average job value | $6,000 |
| Gross margin on a job (example 30%) | $1,800 |
| Profit left after the lead cost | $1,426 per job |
In this example hipages is clearly worth it. Now change one number: if the same spend wins only two jobs, each job costs $1,494 to win, and most of the margin is gone. Same platform, very different answer. That is why two roofers can have completely opposite opinions about hipages.

Response speed
hipages says up to three businesses can claim each lead. If you are on a roof and reply three hours later, the homeowner may already have booked someone. A missed-call text-back or an assistant that replies within a minute changes your odds without any extra lead spend. See what missed calls cost a roofer.
Being choosy
Claiming every lead burns credits. Claim jobs in your suburbs and your job types only.
Following up
A lot of quotes go cold simply because no one chases them. A simple routine of five friendly messages over three weeks recovers some of that work. Our quote follow-up guide has the messages.
Tracking
If you can't say how many jobs came from hipages last quarter, you can't say whether it is worth it. Tag every enquiry with its source.
What do roofers complain about?
Common complaints in public reviews of lead platforms in general include lead quality, rising costs and contract terms. On contracts specifically, there is a documented history: in May 2023 the ACCC announced that hipages had admitted it likely failed to adequately disclose automatic renewal and early termination terms between October 2018 and January 2022, and had given a court-enforceable undertaking (ACCC). The ACCC said hipages now sends email and SMS reminders before automatic renewals.

If you ticked most of these, hipages may well pay for itself. If you ticked only a few, fix the gaps first, or the subscription will mostly buy leads you can't convert.
Who it suits / who it doesn't
Often a good fit:
- New roofing businesses that need work while they build reviews
- Roofers with a dedicated person answering the phone
- Businesses in busy metro areas with plenty of jobs posted
- Roofers who are disciplined about tracking and follow-up
Often a poor fit:
- Solo roofers who can't answer during the day and have nothing replying for them
- Businesses that only want large re-roofs and don't want to compete on shared leads
- Roofers who already have more enquiries than they can follow up
- Anyone who won't track cost per job won
What are the alternatives?
If hipages doesn't stack up for you, the main alternatives are Airtasker for small jobs, your own Google Business Profile and website, Google Search ads, and referrals. We compare them side by side in hipages alternatives for roofers. If you are also looking for where Oneflare's customers went, see what happened to Oneflare.
Where LeadKites fits
LeadKites sells a lead system for Australian roofers, so we are not neutral here and we say so. We don't sell marketplace leads. What we do is make every lead you already get worth more: every call, text and form answered within 60 seconds, every quote followed up for 21 days, inspections booked into your calendar, and your own Google channels built up. That helps whether or not you stay on hipages. See AI automation for roofers or start with the free lead audit. We don't promise a number of leads or jobs; we promise the speed and the work.
Frequently asked questions
Is hipages worth it for a small roofing business?
It can be, if you respond fast and track cost per job won. If you are solo and on the tools all day with nothing replying for you, shared leads can be hard to convert. Run the break-even maths with your own numbers before signing.
How many hipages leads turn into jobs?
There is no published figure for roofers, and it varies widely with response speed, area and follow-up. Track your own leads, quotes and wins for three months and you will have a better answer than any average.
Why do some tradies say hipages is a waste of money?
Usually because the jobs won didn't cover the subscription. That can come from slow responses on shared leads, claiming jobs outside their area, not following up quotes, or contract terms they didn't expect.
Is it better to spend on hipages or on Google?
They do different jobs. hipages can bring enquiries within days, while Google Maps takes longer but the enquiries aren't shared and the results last. Many roofers use both, then shift spend toward whichever wins jobs more cheaply.
What should I check before signing a hipages contract?
The first term, the renewal date, the notice needed to cancel, any early exit cost, and whether credits roll over. Ask for the answers in writing and put your renewal date in your diary.
